Project Description

This building reflects the University’s commitment to sustainable design to both students and the community. Some examples of sustainable building measures include the following: a storm water collection and biofiltration system that will be exhibited in an outdoor “Delta” retention pond, a pervious concrete parking lot, mechanical and electrical systems which optimize energy performance well in excess of Title 24, a construction waste management plan which diverts construction waste from the landfill, water efficient landscaping, and the use of recycled materials exceeding at or above 5% of aggregate material value. The Gateway Science Museum project included a complex mechanical system. Components included dual-duct air terminal units, condensing boilers, evaporatively cooled chillers, indoor air handling units, electric evaporative steam humidification system, close-coupled in-line centrifugal pumps, gas fired equipment, refrigerant piping, hydronic piping, hydronic specialties, split systems heat pumps, roof mounted and in-line centrifugal fans, fan drives, dampers, and specialty gas vents.
